G’day,

I am Cambo, and currently spending the year, if not longer, driving around Australia, in an attempt to see as much of this beautiful country as possible. So far, I have been on the road for 3 months and have driven approximately 14,000km, from Perth, up the Western Australian coastline to Exmouth and back, then from Perth, across to Adelaide, up the Murray River, into Victoria’s high country, and onto the east coast, pulling over to as many spots in between as I can!

Constantly, I am getting asked why I decided to do this trip. The simple answer is, “Why Not?” I have lived in Australia all my life (23 years) and never left the country. I don’t have a passport. One day I will travel outside of Australia, but for now, I just want to see as much of my country as possible. As a kid, my family used to go camping almost every school holidays, and so I have grown up comfortable with living on the road, and I think my passion for Australian travel started there. For the last two years, I was working full time, and saving towards a house. My weekends and limited holidays throughout the year were where I was getting my Australian travel previously, but I always wanted to do a big trip. When my contract was coming up for an extension, I had to apply for my position again. At this point, I thought that it was probably the best timing for me to do this trip. I am single, no kids obviously, and worked hard and saved hard, so I didn’t have anything really holding me back. I applied for my role, almost half hearted, as I had already made up my mind that I would do this trip, but thought it was best to give it another crack, and maybe make a bit more money, before heading off on this adventure. In the end, I didn’t get the job, even though I had been working in that position for two years. Someone else was better on paper, and most likely a lot more passionate in the interview room than me. Honestly, it was the best result for me, as I didn’t have any excuse now to delay this adventure. I started packing up my gear, getting my ute ready, and planning my trip. I haven’t looked back and have loved every minute since.

My future plans for the adventure are to get into the Blue Mountains in the coming days, as I am heading south from Coffs Harbour and Dorrigo at the moment, before making my way back to Perth via Bathurst and The Great Ocean Road. From Perth, I will be joining some mates up to Uluru and then driving up to Darwin and Kakadu area. Next will be heading west and enjoying the Kimberly region, followed by making my way from Broome to Mount Isa and enjoying what I can of the top of QLD (before wet season kicks in). When wet season comes about, I’ll head south, and enjoy the regions of QLD and make my way into Brisbane. Lastly, I’ll keep heading south and do Mount Kosciusko, and potentially, if time and finances allow it, I’ll get to Tasmania.

I’m loving this life, but glad I put in the hard yards in previous years while working, to save and use the money on this trip. I’d recommend this adventure for anyone who loves Australia!
